Information for Parents/Carers:
School Closure: Ysgol Rhosnesni is closed to ALL students until further notice. Children who are vulnerable and children whose parents are critical to the Covid-19 response (who cannot be safely cared for at home) are entitled to provision. However, it is imperative that, as far as possible, we minimise social contact and ensure that anyone who is particularly vulnerable to the virus is able to adopt stringent social distancing. This means that if children can stay safely in their home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

Free School Meals: The council have announced information on Free School Meals, saying they are working hard to try and provide free school meals to children who aren’t in school at the moment. We have not received any information directly in school. There is however a statement from Cllr Mark Pritchard available on Wrexham.com:
From Friday 27th March 2020, if your children are entitled to free school meals, you’ll be able to collect ‘grab and go’ packed lunches from one of the following sites: Caia Park Estates office, Plas Madoc Estates office, Broughton Estates office, Gwersyllt Estates office, Rhos Estates office (Stiwt), Memorial Hall Wrexham, Plas Pentwyn Coedpoeth, Llay Resource Centre, Overton Library (Cocoa Rooms), Ysgol Y Waun Chirk
You can go to the nearest site. Packed lunches must be collected between 11.30am and 1pm by a parent or carer. You will need to give staff the name of your child/children and the school they attend, and you’ll only be able to collect a packed lunch for your own child/children. The council point out that you will need to follow social distancing measures, maintaining your distance from other people. The service will be provided during normal school days.
School Transport changes: As from Monday (March 30th) home to school transport will be suspended until further notice across the county borough. This is to reduce non-essential travel and to ensure social distancing of children.
SEN (Special Education Needs) home to school transport will continue for children travelling to their usual facilities.
The council say take-up of home to school transport has been extremely low this week, which has also contributed to the decision.
If you have any questions about any of the above information please contact Wrexham Council directly on: 01978 292000
There are resources for families to use whilst at home and links to useful websites under the STUDENTS tab on this website. These will be kept updated and new resources added. Please encourage your children to continue working/revising whilst off school. We are also attempting to provide work in paper format for families without internet access.
Secondary School Applications for September 2020
Transition plans are being put in place for our Year 6 students who have been allocated a place at Ysgol Rhosnesni in September 2020. Arrangements will be communicated through Primary Schools and we will update our transition page as soon as the programme has been finalised.
Additional Staff training day: The Welsh Government has issued a directive to all schools in Wales instructing the addition of a further staff training day in the summer term. This is to allow all schools time to prepare for the introduction of the new Curriculum for Wales. After discussion with our Primary Cluster colleagues, we have decided that this additional day will be on Friday 17th July 2020. Ysgol Rhosnesni students will now finish school for Summer on Thursday 16th July at 3pm and school will be closed on Friday 17th July 2020 to all students. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause to parents.
Student Safety – Vehicle Access
Please can we ask all parents to only enter the school grounds by car if essential. There is a speed limit of 5mph within the school grounds and entrances are very narrow, single file in some areas. The safety of our students and staff is paramount and we politely request that wherever possible you arrange a drop off/pick up point with your child away from the school entrance whilst taking into account the local residents and their access to their properties.
Students who cycle to school are reminded to bring their own lock to secure their bike during the day in the designated area at the front of school.
Thank you for your support.
