Coleg Cambria – visit the website

The school works very closely with Coleg Cambria in a number of capacities. In the first instance, pupils from Rhosnesni High School attend a great variety of ‘collaborative’ courses at the main town centre campus as well as subsiduary sites e.g. Bersham Road. Some examples of the courses available are Bricklaying, Construction, Engineering, Computing, Economics, Psychology, Performing Arts and Hair and Beauty.

Coleg Cambria are also heavily involved in the Careers and World of Work Programme at Rhosnesni High School. Representatives from Coleg Cambria are frequently involved in Parents Evenings, Careers Events and Assemblies, to ensure all pupils have an excellent level of awareness of the opportunities available to them when they leave Rhosnesni.

Business in the Community

Rhosnesni High School are part of the ‘Business in the Community’ Forum. This allows us to work on a regular basis with both local and national companies to provide opportunities for both pupils and staff within the business community. Some examples of the companies we work very closely with are:

  • Scottish Power
  • Barclays Bank
  • Toyota
  • Kingspan
  • Tata Steel
  • Kelloggs
  • JCB
  • North Wales Police

Through the ‘Business in the Communit Forum’ and in association with Careers Wales, a large number of opportunities are afforded to our pupils. Some examples of this are:

  • Careers Days
  • Work Experience
  • Mock Interviews
  • STEM Events
  • Technology Workshops
  • Teachers into Industry Days

Work Experience

At Ysgol Rhosnesni High School, we run a very successful work experience programme each year. Historically, this has taken place during late September in Year 11 where over 95% of pupils complete a full weeks work experience. More recently, this has been moved to late June in Year 10. The companies that offer places to pupils vary in size from sole traders to multi national organisations. The pupils benefit tremendously from this experience and use the skills and knowledge gained to support progress and coursework during normal lessons.

Extended School Partnerships

At Ysgol Rhosnesni High School, we work very closely with a wide range of external trainging providers to ensure that all pupils maximise their attainment by engaging in a truly appropriate curriculum. Some examples of organisations we currently work with are:

  • The Venture – Plumbing, Joinery, Hair and Beauty, Princes Trust
  • North Wales Training – Personal Development Course at Kinmel Camp
  • MPCT – BTEC Public Services through an active and practical curriculum
  • Nantyr – Outdoor Education including kayaking, bushcraft and rock climbing
  • IteC – Effective Team Membership Course
  • The Warehouse Project – Practical skills in Bricklaying, Joinery and Plastering
  • The Phoenix Project – Personal Fire Safety Awareness
  • The Bike Project – Bike maintenance and safety course
  • Forest School – Bushcraft, sourcing and using raw materials for sustainable living

All of the above provision leads to nationally recognised qualifications as well as developing self esteem, confidence, team working and communication.
