GCSE Music
The department follows the WJEC GCSE syllabus for Music. Our GCSE Music specification encourages an integrated approach to the three distinct disciplines of performing, composing and appraising through four interrelated areas of study as outlined below –
1. Musical Forms and Devices. Prepared Extract – ‘Anitra’s Dance’ by Edvard Grieg
2. Popular Music. Prepared Extract – ‘Everything Must Go’ by the Manic Street Preachers
3. Music for Ensemble
4. Film Music
The four areas of study are designed to develop knowledge and understanding of music through the study of a variety of genres and styles in a wider context.
Our aim is to inspire and motivate pupils to learn an instrument of their choice and to become sophisticated and developed musicians. As a department, we encourage a holistic approach to enthuse and motivate our students to perform music that interests them.
Students are taught in 5 hours a fortnight.
